It has been brought to my attention there could be many Members breaking the law unknowingly under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005. Under these Acts you have to produce a full audit and proof of how you dispose of your commercial waste this includes your teabags. It includes any Business even if you are working from home you have by law to produce audit proof of how you dispose of your commercial waste however small. You can not put it in your domestic bin. Currently if you can not produce the necessary paperwork you could get prosecuted through the Magistrates Court with a fine of up to £ 5000 or accept a fixed penalty fine of £ 300 for immediate settlement. Nottingham City Council are now enforcing this Law so make sure you don’t get caught out.
